About the Artist

Every painting begins as a feeling that refuses to stay silent.Hi, I’m Hemakshi Valera, the artist behind SoulShades13.What began as a quiet creative outlet gradually became something much more meaningful. Painting gave me a way to slow down, reflect, and express emotions that often felt difficult to put into words. Over time, what started as individual pieces evolved into collections, each exploring different themes of memory, imagination, spirituality, nature, and human connection.The name SoulShades13 reflects the idea that every experience leaves its own imprint on us. Through colour, texture, and storytelling, I aim to capture those moments that stay with us long after they have passed; whether it is the stillness of a moonlit night, the wonder of a distant galaxy, the comfort of a familiar memory, or the quiet emotions that exist beneath the surface.Based in Victoria, Australia, I create original acrylic paintings inspired by the spaces between chaos and calm. Artist Statement

My work explores the emotions, memories, and moments that often exist beyond words. Through acrylic painting, I create visual narratives inspired by silence, imagination, spirituality, nature, and human connection.Working across both representational and abstract forms, I am drawn to the spaces between stillness and movement, certainty and wonder, presence and memory. Collections such as Sounds of Silence transform invisible feelings into visual experiences, while other works explore dreamlike landscapes, symbolic imagery, and personal reflection.Rather than presenting fixed meanings, I aim to create paintings that invite interpretation. Each piece serves as a quiet conversation between the artwork and the viewer, allowing individual experiences and emotions to shape the story that unfolds.At the heart of my practice is a simple belief: some of the most meaningful experiences in life are felt rather than spoken.
